Year 5 Trip to Craft Central

As part of the Arts Award Explore which children start in year 6, Jemison Class went to see arts in action at Craft Central – for a real hands on materials experience and visiting practicing makers and designers. Craft Central is a charity that helps preserve skills and support makers and encourages public access and education at their historic building in the Docklands – so they were thrilled to welcome Halley House School. Children saw live demonstrations of glass making, discussed 3d printing, and experimented with design and textiles techniques during the studio tour. They drew real tools, hammered and bent soft metals for a shared arts work and showed off their stitching abilities. Jo McClean at Craft Central said they were “thrilled to welcome the children” and she also said she was very impressed with their levels of interest and drawing skills!
