Art
All pupils have an hour each week in the Children’s Art Studio. The art classes are linked to their class topics such as the Romans, Stone Age and Active Planet. The art curriculum links a range of artists to these topics, with child-centred projects that engage and enliven the schools curriculum. The focus is on imagination, creativity, materials and making through an understanding of human culture in arts, crafts and design. Children in Year 2 achieve the Arts Award Discover visiting Chisenhale Gallery, and children in Years 5 and6 achieve the Arts Award Explore, visiting Goldsmiths Centre and Autograph Gallery.
Writing, note taking, seeing skills and sketching are explored through creating skills booklets for each half term project, enabling children to develop the study of cultures and artists but also their own style and passions within the subject. Skills in drawing, printing, 3D clay and cardboard, painting, collage, textiles build to enable children to leave Halley House confident in a range of materials and drawing styles with strong motor skills and sensory range so that the visual landscape of the modern world is accessible to every pupil.
Our art provision is so strong that it has been recognised by the Goldsmiths’ Centre who decided to award us funding to improve our art room in 2024.
