Physical Education (PE)

We believe that a rich physical education (PE) and a solid sports curriculum directly and positively impacts our pupils’ physical and mental health.

Our curriculum is designed to maximise opportunity for all, ensuring focus groups receive targeted intervention, and pupils enjoy a range of experiences they may not get otherwise.

The PE curriculum is designed to balance overall fitness development with the acquisition of key skills and knowledge for a range of sports and games. PE & Sports Funding is utilised to broaden and deepen experiences and remove barriers pupils may face.

We are committed to the ongoing development of our on-site provision, and all year groups extensively use a wide range of community spaces including sports centres, outdoor ball courts and an Astro pitch at a local secondary school.

Progressive PE

Our physical education curriculum is thoughtfully designed to support and inspire every child’s physical, social, and emotional development from nursery through to Year 6.

Our progressive approach ensures that each stage of learning builds on previous skills, encouraging confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong love for physical activity. From the early years, children are introduced to movement and coordination through play-based activities that develop gross and fine motor skills. As they progress, our curriculum introduces a broad range of sports and physical challenges, fostering resilience, strategic thinking, and collaboration.
We are committed to inclusivity, ensuring all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), fully participate and thrive in PE. Our tailored lessons adapt to individual needs, celebrating achievements at every level and promoting a sense of belonging. Through this inclusive approach, we empower every child to reach their full potential in a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment.
At Halley House, PE is more than physical fitness: it is a vital part of our holistic approach to nurturing well-rounded, confident learners prepared for a healthy, active future.
