Aims and Ethos

Our education ensures that every pupil achieves confidence and success through high-quality and purposeful educational experiences. We provide a broad, balanced, and enriching curriculum with an emphasis on core learning but also a focus on getting out into the community and on IT, preparing our pupils for a dynamic and ever-evolving world.

Our pupils develop the ability to communicate intelligently, articulately, and with confidence. They learn in a stimulating, safe, deeply warm and welcoming environment, benefiting from fun educational experiences that enable them to thrive.

Our ultimate aim is to instil a lifelong love for learning and to nurture motivation, fostering pride in achievements and shaping responsible, thoughtful citizens for the future.

Education at Halley House is for life. Every pupil leaves our school not only with the best possible educational attainment—particularly in English and Maths—but also with the skills, knowledge, positive attitudes, and confidence to succeed in a changing world. They are equipped to make a genuine and positive contribution as responsible, compassionate, and valuable members of our fantastic community.

We are committed to teaching children to:

  • Be active and engaged learners who approach their education with curiosity, enthusiasm, and a sense of purpose
  • Show equality to others, valuing diversity and inclusivity in all their interactions
  • Respect themselves and others, understanding the importance of kindness and mutual appreciation
  • Strive to achieve their best, recognising the value of learning and personal growth
  • Contribute positively to their community and society, understanding their role in shaping a better world
  • Communicate effectively, demonstrating confidence, clarity, and respect for others’ beliefs and perspectives
  • Take responsibility for their actions, understanding the impact they have on others and the world around them
  • Present themselves with confidence, embracing challenges with a growth mindset
  • Show empathy, compassion, and support, building strong, respectful relationships with peers and adults alike
  • Take pride in their achievements and celebrate the successes of others.

By embedding these principles, we ensure that every child not only excels academically, but also develops the character, values, knowledge and skills needed to really thrive in life and contribute meaningfully to the world.

Halley houses

All pupils at our school are part of one of the four Halley houses. The Halley houses are named after constellations, to continue the theme of our school name:

  • Carina House (red)
  • Perseus House (blue)
  • Centaurus House (yellow)
  • Delphinus House (green)

Each house has a pupil Captain who leads the rest of the house to work hard and gain points for the coveted House Cup at the end of the academic year.
